Wallisville Dam Area

Hey folks, I've been offered a job at the Wallisville Dam with the Army Corp of Engineers. I'm pretty sure I'm going to take it. I'm originally from Georgia, and have lived in Michigan and Montana for extended periods. Is there anything I should know about that area? Anything I should know about Houston? Advice, must go places to eat, areas to avoid living, etc?
