Volunteering in Houston
Hey guys, I'm a relatively new Houstonian. I moved here from NY after 6 years as an Army officer because my wife got a great residency here as a doctor.
Either the job market sucks or I suck, or it's a combination of both. That being said I have a lot of time on my hands and a desire to make things better for people in the world starting with zip codes that are mine or near mine. I'm a combat veteran, supporter of the LGBTQ community, fairweather Catholic and I've seen a lot of shittiness but don't know where to start and where I can make an impact.
I don't have any barriers to help, I just figured veteran, pro-LGBTQ and once a month Sunday Catholic means I genuinely want to help people and not catch the reddit stray. Give me a food pantry in the loop and I'll show up, tell me to swing hammers and I'll show up, I'm just bored and tired of being bored. I've had a few drinks but I seriously want to do something good for the place I used to swear I'd never move to. It's home now and my job to make it better.
