Visiting Houston for my (f/30) first time – what’s safe and fun to enjoy at night?

I am visiting family here for the first time – several of us have come from all over. However, most of them are quite quiet and go to bed early.

I don’t want to waste this trip, and want to see this awesome city before I head back to Canada. I don’t mind going out an exploring on my own, but my father is insistent on my safety and convinced I need to be safer. To appease him, I’m asking here what is safe to do 😂 I swear I know there is potential for harm in any large city, and I personally know myself well enough to know I’d take reasonable precautions. He forgets I live on the other side of the country alone and frequently travel by myself too lol.

I want to head out at night when everyone else starts calming down. What are some must sees?
