Visiting Houston and looking for help

Coming into Houston with my daughter (9 yo) mid July hoping if some locals can help answer a few questions.

.Is Northwest Houston safe? Where should we avoid and be mindful of?

.what are some must do’s in or near the city? Museums, antique malls, kids activities, ware parks, animals etc? Would love some recommendations.

.I’m a Chef of over 20 years, where should I eat? I don’t like fancy, I enjoy laid back spots, outdoor grills, food carts etc. Looking for BBQ, some top notch carne asada, really good Chinese, etc….What spots are really killing it in or near the houston area?
