Visiting for the 1st time

I will be in Houston for the National Championship. Go Dawgs! I see that there is a light rail stop outside of NRG. Is public transportation reliable in Houston? Also, any restaurant or viewpoint recommendations? We are renting a car, I just don’t want to drive to the game.
