Vehicle title and registration transfer help?

Hi all,

I just bought a used car (private party sale) with an expired windshield registration sticker. I’m planning on mailing my documents. The Harris County Tax Assessor’s webpage states: “There is also a $2.50 transfer of a current registration fee. If the license is not current, there may be a registration fee.” Does that mean I still pay $2.50, or do I pay the registration renewal amount, which I think is $75.25?
