Used SpotHero in a Pay Lot, Got a "Violation" via 3rd-party Lot Mgr (TAGGR)

A friend used her SpotHero account to reserve and pay for parking (my car) at a lot (owned by Pins) for an event at Daikin Park on 9/26. Yesterday I got a "violation notice," complete with a $220 fee from TAGGR in the mail. From what I can see, TAGGR is a gig job like Door Dash. People sign up with them, they then wander through client lots to find those who park without payment, and they get paid per violation they submit. So the letter isn't a scam, but TAGGR definitely reeks of being a slimy, predatory outfit. On with the show:

The letter was dated 10/1, and I received it 10/7. It said I have 10 days to pay up, or they'll impound or boot my car if they find it in another client's lot and send the fee to collections. Is the 10 days from the date I parked or the date of the letter? Who knows? Aaaanyway, I tried calling TAGGR. Since my proof of parking payment was through another 3rd-party and not Pins, the owner of the lot, I wanted verification that the 3rd-party proof would be sufficient to successfully dispute their violation.

TAGGR's phone system uses an AI that's fairly good at fielding natural language queries. It actually worked fairly well, but I needed to speak to a human about the whole 3rd-party parking app thing. The AI took my info, but my email address isn't pronounceable so I couldn't verify that the AI had it correct, even after I spelled it. Many. Many. Times. Apparently their humans contact people only by email, so I had to be sure they had my email address correct. I finally just gave them my backup email I use for spammy things, then told the AI to f**k off. The latter, of course didn't do anything, but it made me feel better after the frustration of continually spelling my email addy into the void.

Since I am getting close to the 10-day limit (or am beyond it, if it goes by the date I parked), I went ahead and submitted an online dispute through their system and included a screenshot of the proof of payment for that lot on that day and during the time specified in the letter. Got the dispute verification email from them and clicked the details link to see what's there. That link now says my fee is $225. WTAF?

Anyway, I guess I'm looking for a bit of peace of mind here while I wait the 3-5 days for them to get back to me about the dispute. So here are my questions for y'all:

  • Anyone deal with TAGGR violations after using a 3rd-party app to reserve and pay for parking?
  • If anyone's filed a dispute with their proof of payment from their 3rd-party app, how long did it take to actually resolve?
  • If anyone's filed a dispute, did your "violation fee" go to collections while you disputed it? I ask, because the time it will take for all this will definitely go beyond their "pay up in 10 days, or else" window.
  • Anyone else see their fee mysteriously go up from what was specified in the letter?

I know the impound/boot threat is an empty threat, but I have a really good credit score and sending this to collections while I'm disputing the violation could adversely affect my score. So, yeah, anyone's experiences with this company would be helpful.
