Urgently seeking type O+ Donors

A good friend from Pittsburgh put the word out, so I'm sharing here for visibility: Your support in spreading this message could make a significant difference. And if you are blood type O+, please consider helping her daughter.

My very close friend is facing an unimaginable challenge: her daughter is courageously battling leukemia, a fight she has been enduring for the past two years. Currently, seh is undergoing treatment at MD Anderson, where she has spent the last six months. Despite her incredible strength and having already undergone two bone marrow transplants, she now faces a critical situation, she has no viable bone marrow left and is at a high risk for severe infections.

Yesterday, they received devastating news: Leni has developed an invasive fungal infection, which is one of the leading causes of death for leukemia patients with weakened immune systems. This news has left us all deeply concerned, yet hopeful that we can rally support for Leni in this desperate time.

To fight against this serious infection, we urgently need donors with blood type O (preferably O+) to step forward and contribute white blood cells (granulocytes). Specifically, we are seeking individuals aged 18-70 who live in or can travel to Houston and are willing to undergo screening to donate their life-saving cells. I kindly ask you to share this critical message with your friends and network in Houston who may be able to help.

Below, you’ll find two informative videos that outline the donation process, as well as the contact details for Yiana Arceneaux, our dedicated White Blood Cell Donation Coordinator at MD Anderson: (832) 748-6790. You can reach out to Yiana via text or call, expressing your interest in being screened to donate for Leni Mandell. She will provide comprehensive guidance, set up the necessary arrangements, and answer any questions you might have. This situation is particularly poignant as we hold on to hope that the latest targeted therapy is finally making a difference. Just last week, Leni received her first leukemia-free bone marrow biopsy results.

Your support could be the lifeline that Leni desperately needs. Thank you for considering this request and for any assistance you can offer during this critical time. Together, we can make a significant impact on Leni’s fight for her life!
