Upgrading HVAC unit. Anyone know any reliable, licensed HVAC companies capable of doing so?
Can anyone personally recommend a high quality, licensed and reliable A/C installation company/technician in the Houston/Sugar Land area?
The evaporating coil on my upstairs A/C unit is leaking and has no refrigerant left (i.e. my AC is dead right now) so I'm not sure if I should just replace the coil, which I've been told will cost me anywhere between $2300-$3000, or if I should pay more now to replace the coil and upgrade the outside condenser so my system will run on R-410 instead of R-22 refrigerant, which I've received quotes in between the $5500-$8000 range. Are these quotes accurate? Seems like such a wide range and I'm not sure what's a good/acceptable price?
I feel like I've had some bad luck in this area since my current coil is only 5 years old and already causing problems. Unfortunately, the tech that came to my house two weeks ago when my A/C started failing made me believe he fixed the leak and refilled my freon for $700 total. Unfortunately, that was not the case at all since the $700 was just to refill my freon, which has clearly depleted over the past 2 weeks. On top of that, my outside condenser was replaced by the same tech only 7 years ago but he replaced it with an R-22 instead of R-410 refrigerant unit. I want to make sure this time I'm well-informed of my choices and make a sound decision that hopefully won't cost me any more money/regrets over the next decade or so, if not longer.
If I choose to upgrade the outside condenser, does brand matter and if so, which ones should I consider and which ones should I avoid? For reference, my current system is a Goodman 5.0 ton 13 SEER unit. Would greatly appreciate any insight or guidance from anyone well-versed in this area since I clearly am not!
