Update on my complaint to Houston Metro
So I made a post a while back about being passed by the bus while at the bus stop. I got a call back from metro and the woman I talked to thanked me for the complaint. She told me they need more people to complain so that they could build a case against drivers that do this. So I'm guessing they have a union. She also told me that when I file a complaint against I driver it's handled by each individual garage. I didn't think to ask a follow up but that makes me wonder. If you get too many complaints on one route, can you just switch to a different route?
She said a supervisor had spoken to the driver about the importance of picking up people at the stop. She also cleared up some questions I had about previous problems at metro. Apparently drivers are to stop at the bus stop and shelters. It's not common but I've seen areas where the bus stop and the shelter are not close. At one point the stop I go to was across the street from the shelter for two months. She also told me that drivers have discretion to stop within two car lengths of the shelter or stop. I've had issues with drivers kicking passengers off a half a block from the stop because they wanted to make the light. I also had an incident where a driver was a few car lengths away from the shelter and waved me to get on. But he had stopped Infront of about 3 inches of mud. I asked him to pull up to the shelter and he drove past me sneering.
What made me think to add an update was as I was walking towards the bus another bus past by a man waiting for it. He was waving his hands and the bus didn't even attempt to slow down. Now this is one of the first few stops for that bus. So the bus wouldn't have been full. That bus runs every 30 minutes so there wasn't another bus right behind. The driver just wouldn't stop.
Then when I got on my bus I guess they were changing drivers but the new driver was late. So the older driver just got off and left. She left the engine running and door open and didn't even say what was going on.
But now I have the page to leave a complaint on my home screen because some of these drivers are getting out of control and making public transportation look bad.
Edit: As Im ready to go back to work from lunch I'll have to wait 40 minutes. One bus is 5 minutes early and I won't be able to catch it. The next bus is 22 minutes late. This is on a route that is supposed to run every 10 minutes
