Update from Houston Trip

I figured since I had so many people give me great suggestions on my last post I would give an update of what I was able to do.

Just gonna start off with Xochi.

Honestly kinda mad at myself for not eating a meal there every day. Walked in at 7:30 Thursday night and instantly got a table.

Had the quest for the novelty of it (bugs on top of cheese and chicharrones for chips) and it was excellent. My wife made me eat all the bugs though haha. Beef cheek mole was INSANE. My wife ordered a mushroom dish and then a sweet potato side. Killer. I’m not a sweet potato guy but I think I ate more of it than her. Finished with a dessert I can’t remember the name of, but it was a pretty indigo…cookie thing with a soft inside, served with a horchata(?) ice cream.

Everyone that recommended Xochi – thank you. Really great food experience.

I’ll keep the food places rolling – Bravery.

Love food depots like this.

The oyster bar, Margaux’s, has a very cool and knowledgeable owner. Ate here twice because he was so cool and his product was so fresh. He had a limited batch of a breed called Empress that was among the top three oysters I’ve ever had. It’s borderline sinful to even put lemon on them they are so good.

We had sushi from Kokoro that was beautiful. Shiitake skewers, karaage, yellowtail. All Devine.

Bibimbap from Blind Goat was super on point. Very balanced bites.

Couple of iced matcha lattes from the Italian Job – was my after lunch walk around drink. Very good.

Also love the hidden garden.

Friday night was Post Market time. After having a bit of a time figuring out where we were going (sorry super friendly Uber driver!) – we landed and it was awesome. We actually passed it on the highway and both said, “whoah what is that rooftop garden thing? We should check that out.” My wife was taking us to a beer garden haha.

This place was a lot of fun. Like a mega Bravery. I should have tried more food but the Cajun place did me in with seafood crostinis and crawfish. Topped it off with some rose honey ice cream in a matcha cone dipped in lucky charms. Wowee. Rooftop had a dj and two beverage carts – really great time and would be there a lot if I lived in HTX.

Tried to check out 8th Wonder on Thursday but they were hosting some sort of crypto coin private event. Backtracked to True Anomaly and had a great sour beer called Máe and a Mexican style lager I can’t remember the name of. Cool atmosphere but it was early so kinda dead. Liked their playlist though haha.

I solo’ed the fine arts museum and caught the Escher exhibit. What an awesome building. I could have been in there for 6 hours but only got to spend about 2.5 – 3 as I was meeting wife.

We duo’ed the science museum and went to see the Egyptian exhibit. We spent 4 hours on everything in there – and still missed the minerals and gems!

Walked the park afterwards to see the mini Washington monument and sit by the pond. Was harassed by a very demanding goose as we sat on a bench. Good times.

So yeah. That was Thursday and Friday. Had to be out of our hotel by 11 on Saturday and heading to the airport by 2 so that day was neutered as far as adventuring.

There were so many things on the list I wanted to do, but now I have plenty in my pocket for when we return. Thank you Houston – it was delicious!
