United Airlines says it will train 5,000 pilots; half to be women, people of color
United Airlines (Nasdaq: UAL) said it will train 5,000 pilots by 2030 and vowed that half of them will be women or people of color.
The Chicago-based carrier, which has a major presence in Houston, said April 6 that it’s opening its United Aviate Academy in Phoenix, which will train the pilots, beginning with an initial class of 20. United bought the school, formerly known as Westwind School of Aeronautics, last year, but the Covid crisis cratered demand for pilots.
