Truth about “agreeing to Saints terms”

A lot of ridiculous panic about the article that we agreed to the Saints terms.

A few things to know :

1) it’s true that we agreed. They have the same thing in place we did with the Watson talks. In order to interview Payton, each team had to submit an offer the Saints were ok with.

2) No one at all said it was 2 firsts. First, Payton himself said after speaking to Loomis it would likely be a mid-late first. WAY after someone “leaked” that the Saints want a huge ridiculous package.

3) Leverage – Saints have very little. It would be stupid of them to push too hard. If their bluff is called then Payton goes back to broadcast and they get nothing. Also if he officially un-retires, there IS a portion of his contract they are obligated to (though not much).

So when someone says “they’ve agreed to Saints demands”…..ok….but calm the hell down as you have no idea what the actual demands were.
