Tropical Storm/Hurricane for a new homeowner

This may be the wrong subreddit. But being a new homeowner in the Houston area what are some items that are worth looking at with an incoming tropical storm/hurricane. I’m certain of some provisions but what are the ones you forget until it’s too late. Also what’s your suggestion on brand of portable generator? I’m looking to power multiple major appliances, fans etc.
