Transportation recommendations to Freeport

I need to visit Freeport, and there is not a ton of one way options.

There are a few airport shuttles for hundreds of dollars, and one way rental cars from Houston are also hundreds of dollars.

What is the best method to travel from Houston to Freeport on the cheap? Primarily from IAH or HOU.
