Trading back from 2. Crazy as it sounds or nah?
OK, take a deep breath, unclench your jaw and give me a second.
Imagine that you're Nick Caserio, it is the day of the draft, the Bears wanted their pick of Carter/Anderson and stood pat.
The phone rings.
It's Chris Ballard. o.0
He wants his guy, he needs his guy, he's already let it be known that he does. Do you consider trading out 2 for a package that involves 4 and 35? Pick 2 is worth 2600points. 4 is worth 1800 and 35 is worth 550 for a total of 2350. I think at minimum I'd want next year's second which would have a value in the low 400s.
That would leave us in a spot with Anderson/Carter and a QB taken in the first 2 picks. Arizona is almost certainly not taking a QB so we still get either our first or second choice at QB at 4 a high second which we might then be able to use to trade back into the first if we need to or could just use on one of the many great prospects available at the top of the second.
Now, would the Colts do that? are they that worried about us taking their guy that they trade up with us? Would Nick let their division rival have their pick of the litter? Would we ask for a next year's first instead of a second to really jam them and then maybe have ammo to grab our guy next year if our guy this year turns out to be a bust?
And remember to take a deep breath before you tell me what you think.
