Trade Lonnie, Trade and Sign Maye

The scenario

Lonnie Johnson : Not bad but not great. Has a few INTs due to a modicum of talent and in a Lovie system. Has a few years left on a rookie deal. Good chance we can get a 4th rounder for him due to a couple INTs already and a few almost INTs.

Marcus Maye : On a Tag. Can be had for a 5th due to Jets getting nothing for him after the season and freeing up some cash. No playoff chances. Texans can trade a middling pick and extend him so we have Reid insurance and a stud safety who will thrive in Lovie’s defense for 4 years.

Caserio : I believe he wants this team competitive next year. I think he gets a QB somehow and we make a quick turnaround with DW4 trade assets.

I know this will be downvoted to hell, but I think this is a good choice for a few reasons. I think whoever comes in at QB needs a strong defense. Lovie’s system needs solid Safety play who can hawk for turnovers. If we can get Reid and Maye long term this could be a solid secondary. We have about 3 CB2 caliber corners and I think we can get a stud early in the draft along with a true Edge threat.

Lonnie may be good, but won’t ever be Maye. Maye wants to lead a good Defense and he knows Lovie makes safeties look good. Good chance he will sign a long term deal. Also we should have a ton of Cap space.

Make it happen and we still can end up a wash in the Picks swapped from Lonnie to Maye. Come one Caserio.
