Total Rebuild in Four Easy Steps
Title says it all. Caserio doesn’t need to over think this. This is the blueprint. Dummy proof stuff. Do me a favor and make sure Nick doesn’t reinvent the wheel and email him this write up. Here we go.
Step One: Trade the Albatross.
Get Watson off the team. Someone cleverly is starting the dialogue through social media, to gauge the temperature of the water. Caserio jumps on the phone and works out a deal that gets executed at the start of the new operational year in March. Watson to the Commanders, in return for Chase Young, their 1st (11th overall), 2nd (42nd overall), 3rd (73rd overall), and next year’s 1st and 3rd.
Step Two: Open the Checkbook
With the Watson salary back in the spending account, we spend some money on 2nd tier players, think Manning and Joseph type signings, instead of swinging for sterling FAs. First on the list is Conner Williams, starting OG on the Cowboys. He’s not world class, but much better than serviceable, albeit it ugly looking at times. Second signing is Ryan Jenson, starting center for the Bucs. Top rated available center free agent. Will cost a penny relative to the position, but it won’t gouge the coffers either. Final major signing is James Daniels, starting OG for the Bears. Thus, our 2022 starting offensive line will look thusly: Tytus(RT), James Daniel(RG), Jenson(C), Williams(LG), Tunsil(LT). Solid.
Step Three: Wheel and Deal
Trade Washington’s 2nd and a 3rd next year to the Cowboys for Amari Cooper(WR). Cooper is a proven commodity, and the Boys would normally stay with him on their roster, but his contract is cost prohibitive, so they trade him cheaply. Next year’s starting wide receivers group will be: Cooper, Collins, Cooks. Solid once again.
Step Three: Resign Some Guys
We resign Reid, Collins, and Jacob Martin. Jacob comes back on a cheap deal. Collins gets a slight pay raise. Reid cashes in a few chips as well, but doesn’t terrorize the budget. We lock Cooks in for an additional 4, at $15.5M per.
Step Four: Draft for Defense
Armed with six picks within the top 100 (the 3rd, 11th, 37th, 68th, 73rd and 80th), it looks promising that we will draft some high end contributors in the first two days of the draft. We trade up from 11th to 6th by giving up our 80th and another 2023 3rd. Draft hardcore defense and remake it in one draft. Select the following: 3rd – Kayvon Thibodeaux (DE) 6th – Kyle Hamilton (S) 37th – Roger McCreary (CB) 68th – Breece Hall (RB) 73rd – Leo Chenal (LB)
All of those picks are starter quality player picks with all pro probabilities from the top two and likely pro bowl appearances for the rest. Starting DL next year will be Chase Young(DE), Ross Blacklock(DT), Maliek Collins(DT), Greenard/Thibodeaux(DE). Solid
Reid and Hamilton immediately become the division’s top safety combo. Solid.
With the talented Breece Hall in the back field, and a much improved oline leading the way, the run game improves dramatically, making Mills a much better player. His game improves tremendously, that immediately the world wakes up to what’s going on Houston.
TLDR: Cal give me a call.
