Today’s NPR Town Square about the Astroworld Tragedy
Listening to this is honestly infuriating. Their guest, Houston Chronicles music critic Joe(y?) Guerra, is constantly downplaying what went on. He said unconscious girls were getting body surfed out of a show at Fitzgeralds, & that there are always people passing out at festivals… Did they not watch all the real-time tiktok videos & hear all the first hand accounts? People are saying there was a constant stream of unconscious people being surfed out. People were screaming for help before the concert even started. None of it is normal & they are just completely deflecting. He even made a point to say that there weren't ~actually~ 50k people at the stage. Okay??? Maybe 25k then? What is the point of that argument?
A caller brought up that it was declared a mass casualty event before it ended & they chose to debate the timeline & say, well, what if a riot happened because they canceled the concert?
How out of touch are these people? The city of Houston is grieving. I've always been a big fan of Ernie's show but this one is incredibly disappointing.
