Tips for living with roaches?

Just moved to town, living in an apartment, and when we brought up the German cockroaches with the complex, pest control just told us it’s normal to see a handful of them in the apartment every day.

It seems like half the comments in this subreddit also show an acceptance that roaches are just a way of life in Houston.

My searches have gone from “how to get rid of cockroaches” to “how to live with cockroaches” and wanted to ask if there were any general tips that someone who’s lived in a different climate might not generally know

So far I’ve found: – placing clean cups in the cupboards upside down – also rinsing all dining ware before use even if just washed/cleaned – no food on the counters unless 110% sealed/everything goes in the fridge – trash can with a heavy lid – blasting the fan whenever cooking – boric acid, moth balls, and fabuloso might help fight them

Anything else that might be obvious that we’re not considering or that can help life with roaches be a bit more bearable?
