Tipping Culture
This isn’t unique to Houston, and there have been multiple posts about this already, but I had to share this exceptionally annoying experience.
I went to Crumbl Cookies in Bellaire today. I was the only customer in there at the time. They had 2 self order screens on the side, but seeing as there was no line, I walked up to the counter. I looked at the worker who stared back at me without saying a word. I noticed the screen at the counter was also facing me, so I think “Okay no problem, I’ll place the order myself.” After choosing “no” multiple times to their text and email alerts, I finally get to the pay screen. There it give me multiple options for tips, starting at 20%.
Seriously, a tip for an order I had to place by myself? To top it all off, after I submitted the order, I was asked what my name was before they gave me the cookie…even though I was the only one there. Really mind-baffling. Not sure what tips are even supposed to be for anymore.
