Tim Horton’s review
This morning I visited the Tim Horton's at 8910 Westheimer because I'd been meaning to check this place out. The building inside and out is attractive, modern looking, and seems to be well put together. The smell is similar to a McDonalds in that it has a clean, mildly scented, sanitized smell. The decor is 100% corporate overlord, entirely curated, attractive, and designed to feel cozy and welcoming. They sell doughnuts and related items, egg sandwiches, muffins, and other similar goods. They also have a moderate range of various coffees hot and cold, lemonades, and other colored/flavored drinks. The fried doughnuts are about the same as Dunkin: Cookie cutter in look, slightly tough in texture, and bland. In summary, boring. The iced chocolate icing is your typical goop that has a faint chocolate taste but is mostly just there to look, not taste, like chocolate. The Timbits doughnut holes are the same, except for the 'cake' variety which has cake flavoring in it.
The only standout I had was the apple fritter. These were really, really good, and the only reason I'd go back. One of these is shown on a plate in the pics below. The apple fritters are a flat of dough folded over with some cooked apple cubes inside. What makes these great is they have a good amount of cinnamon, the sweetness is right, and the apple chunks are highly evident and not overcooked to be highly mushy. These are super good.
I had the 'dark' coffee and it was not impressve. It has a lesser skunky, burned, rancid flavor than the dark coffee at Bucees, but I would not get it again because it still borders on skunky, rancid, and burned. It does not taste good. If I go back, I will try the regular brewed coffee.
The service was good, with plenty of employeees to process orders. The girl at the counter took our oddball order of random stuff just fine and asked another worker for help because a Chai tea could only be had hot, not cold. Oddly, there is only one cash register inside at the front counter, although the place has a double drive through so maybe that's where they expect the volume of customers to be.
So overall this is about what I expected except for the apple fritters which are great. I would go back for those.
