Thoughts on the Clowney trade in hindsight?
I really hated it after seeing Mack get traded for 2 firsts and Texans only got a third (the Hopkins-Diggs fiasco gives me the same feeling but magnified).
But in hindsight, it looks like that might have been an alright trade for us. Given that he's been on the market for a month and is still a free agent, it seems that the league values him at his price as a negative asset. Right now Seattle won't even pay 13 mil/year for him. Seattle is probably gonna get a 3rd round compensatory pick for him when all is said and done, so in the end I don't think the Texans really lost value.
The question then becomes if we could have sold Clowney for more, like a 2nd or 1st rounder, if we shipped him in the beginning of the summer. Might have been possible, but in hindsight it probably would have looked like a fleece (imagine the Texans fleecing another team instead of getting fleeced themselves)!
