Thoughts on Spring Branch

Hello. My wife and I are moving from Austin to the Houston area soon. Have family that lives in Katy and we are looking to rent a house in west/NW Houston. How is the Spring Branch area? Read some bad things but it appears to be up and coming potentially. Thanks in advance!
