Thoughts on Slowik potentially leaving
Texans are receiving Slowik interview requests. Thoughts on his readiness for a head coaching position aside, I don't think this is as large an issue as it appears to be. He's clearly got a good football mind and has drawn up some great plays/routes to get our guys open and create opportunities for our pass game.
All that said, I think his run scheme has largely been a failure. You can't put all of the blame on him as talent, injuries and experience play a large part in player performance but you have to scheme around what you have. With our pass game's explosiveness you'd think he could create more opportunities for the run game.
Between Singletary being inconsistent, Pierce's massive regression and our O-line's generally poor performance in the run game, there's a little too much coincidence for his scheme to not hold a larger part of the blame.
All this is to say, he's done a good but not great job in my most likely unpopular opinion. I'd like to see another year with him, obviously, so he and our run game and CJ can develop and have some consistency but I also think we'll survive without him.
