Thoughts about how safe Midtown is?

So a little background, I grew up in the Bronx and I've moved around a lot. Currently I live in Plano but I'm moving to Midtown Houston because from my research, it's as close as I'm going to get to the walkability and public transportation whilst still being in Texas. I can take a bus, tram, or short Uber ride to go where I want to go. My job is work from home, but after work I'd like to get out and go do a concert, a beer garden, or something else that's fun. Plus I'm 40 minutes away from family which is why Houston works for me. So ultimate question is,

How safe or dangerous s the midtown part of Houston? I know I can look up crime stats but that doesn't really communicate all the factors and it's paints a clearer picture to get some of the residents opinions. I'm looking at a condo in 2016 main st. and or the camden apartments. I'll be moving at the end of July. I'm also looking to join a local MMA gym.
