This needs to be said based on yesterday’s news

By "yesterday's news", I'm referring to the indictment of Emmanuel Clase and Luis Ortiz for gambling and bet fixing charges.

Of course, like any modern baseball scandal, it's going to get unfairly compared to our sign stealing scandal. And while I haven't seen TOO much in the wake of that (and won't call people out regardless based on Reddit rules), it needs to be said: cheating to win, in any form, has always been seen as not as morally wrong as game fixing. It's the same reason why steroid users are handed suspensions and can only been banned for life if they are triple offenders (which has only happened once). It's also why (to get back to us) even if the Astros players did get punished, banning for life was never on the table.

People often forget that the Black Sox and Pete Rose weren't banned for gambling (as MLB has never taken a stance on that), but for dealing with the mob to throw games. And that's what Clase and Ortiz did (minus the mob part). Their forthcoming ban, and possible prison sentence, represents the lowest of the low in baseball by precedents set over a hundred years ago. And any kind of situation after that, Astros included, will never be seen on that level. I know I'm kind of preaching to the choir here, but I hoped to clear up any further doubts.
