All Weekend – M.C. Escher: Journey to Infinity Screening @ MFAH @ 6pm (FRI/SAT) @ 2PM (SUN) Journey to Infinity looks at the legacy of world-famous Dutch graphic artist M.C. Escher.
Ongoing – Leandro Erlich @ MFAH Seeing Is Not Believing features two of Erlich’s most iconic installations: Bâtiment (Façade) and Le cabinet du psy (The Psychoanalyst’s Office). These immersive, room-size environments and a selection of additional works span the career of the acclaimed Argentinean artist, whose psychological subversion of the everyday seems to defy the basic laws of physics while challenging your sense of balance, space, and the absolute.
Ongoing – MC Escher Virtual Realities exhibit @ MFAH – The MFAH hosts the largest and most comprehensive exhibition of works by M.C. Escher ever presented. Virtual Realities features more than 400 prints, drawings, watercolors, printed fabrics, constructed objects, wood and linoleum blocks, lithographic stones, sketchbooks, and the artist’s working tools.
Ongoing – Beauty and Ritual: Judaica from the Jewish Museum, New York @ MFAH The new, ongoing partnership between the MFAH and the Jewish Museum brings exceptional objects to Houston over a period of years. Beauty and Ritual explores the artistic, ritualistic, and cultural significance of more than 140 works.
Ongoing – Meret Oppenheim: My Exhibition @ Menil Meret Oppenheim: My Exhibition is the Swiss artist’s first major transatlantic retrospective, and the first in the U.S. in more than twenty-five years.
Ongoing – Samuel Fosso: African Spirits Exhibition @ Menil Samuel Fosso: African Spirits features the artist’s fourteen, large-scale gelatin silver photographs from African Spirits.
Ongoing – Marcia Kure Exhibition @ Menil Drawing Institute The Menil Drawing Institute’s Wall Drawing Series presents a new monumental work by artist Marcia Kure, the third of an ongoing series of ephemeral, site-specific wall drawings.
