The Mayor hides when he doesn’t like the answer

https://www.axios.com/local/houston/2024/06/17/john-whitmire-11th-street-report-heights Whitmire refused to release this report because it's not the answer he wanted. 11th is working as designed! He suppressed the average speed and sales tax data because he knew * in March * what it showed. u/walkandrollhouston got the sales tax data via TPIA but Whitmire got an AG ruling squashing it. Which he also did with the speed data. It's unacceptable what he hides. And despite the report showing crashes are down, he recently forced the TIRZ to restore 11th to 4 lanes at Shepherd so drivers can turn left into the donut shop (which admitted their sales weren't impacted). Terrible place to make an unprotected left! New crashes are on him. The data in this report shows 11th works exactly as redesigned. It had excess capacity, carefully documented by the city, which is why drivers speed and crash. And it won an award for the design. Remember the constant whining from a handful of privileged 11th street haters because they don't want to share a street they don't own? Now we know the cost. During the two months he's had (and suppressed!) this report about the success of 11th's lane reduction, he paused phase 2 of Shepherd-Durham to restore it to 4 lanes. He used so many flimsy excuses too. Completely misleading us. submitted by /u/walkandrollhouston |
