The hits and misses at Agnes & Sherman brunch

The Bacon Egg & Cheese sandwich and the wedge (I particularly loved the house-made scallion ranch and Chinese donuts as croutons) were both fantastic. Really fantastic. The Pandan French toast was an interesting fusion of cuisines that is worth trying but, for the calories, I would have preferred regular old French toast. The biggest miss was the dish I was the most excited to try: the savory waffle and orange chicken twist on chicken and waffles. Even as a “savory dish” a waffle needs the option of syrup. And the honey butter was decidedly not honey butter and not at all good (how does one even mess up honey butter?). The orange chicken was also a miss. The shrimp tostado was also not great. The waiter asked us to order everything at once and then stated he would “course” the meal. That, apparently, just means the food is delivered with very poor timing (far worse for our neighboring table that only ordered two dishes and got the second an extremely long time after the first dish was delivered and after inquiring where it was and then waiting longer). Our French toast was so delayed and we were so ignored that I just assumed it was not put in. But, having said all that, there is clearly a genius trying to do difficult to accomplish new things in that kitchen, the space is beautiful and very, very clean, parking is easy, and the staff is really nice. Definitely worth trying for something new.
