The HC and OC relationship

For those of you who’ve read Of mice and men, why does it feel like Demeco and Slowiks relationship is similar to that of George and Lennie (brothers). Where Lennie continues to make mistakes and George is out here just defending him no matter the severity of the mistake. Long story short, George shoots Lennie at the end of the book due to making a mistake that is absolutely unforgivable and would rather kill him by his own hands rather then being caught by the people after him. Is it time to shoot (metaphorically) Slowik? Or are we just going to wait until he does something absolutely unforgivable?
