The case for Not drafting a quarterback next year and keeping Mills
I know everyone in this sub does not have time to watch football all day Sunday But a lot can be learned just by looking at the box scores from this week and the previous weeks. This week like many others clearly demonstrates how difficult it is for a NFL quarterback to be successful without both a talented group of receivers and Average offensive line Evidence QBs with no wide receivers to throw to 1 Aaron Rodgers He threw three interceptions today which is more than he had all of last year against the lions. One of the worst pass defense in the NFL. He has absolutely no wide receivers 2. Justin Herbert had one of his worst weeks against one of the worst passing defenses in the NFL. His top two wide receivers did not play today QBs with terrible offensive lines 1. Tom Brady he knew his offensive line was toast which is why he tried to force his way out at the beginning of the year. 2. Matt Stafford has a totally different offensive line than what he had when they won the Super Bowl a year ago
Examples demonstrating the opposite to be true 1. Geno Smith He is argue really a top five quarterback this year. The Seahawks saw Smith and Wilson in practice every day and they knew the difference wasn’t nearly whatever everyone one thought it was. 2. Tua Some of you are going to chalk this up to him growing into himself and his third year. His Leap is unbelievable from where he was. That coincides with getting one of the best wide receivers in the NFL and a solid coaching staff around him. 3. Hertz similar situation they added a top 10 wide receiver for him to work with
Some of you will point out the cases of Justin Fields and Lamar Jackson. Both of these quarterbacks success is heavily dependent on their running ability but specifically the volume. With that volume comes extra hits. This type of play for a quarterback in the NFL is not sustainable. Even with the league doing their best to protect the quarterback this type of QB Much like NFL running backs has a very short half-life. There’s a reason the ravens are hesitant to give Lamar Jackson a long term deal.
Davis Mills He has without a doubt the worst receivers in the NFL. I’m not sure there’s ever been an NFL game in the past 10 years that featured worst wide receivers for one team then Thursday night. The Texans have the worst combination of centers and guards. Anyone who understands the NFL realizes you cannot be successful when a defense can get pressure up the middle.
When evaluating Mills people should be looking at the things he’s able to accomplish with the situation he’s in. I’m not some dummy who believes in Mills just because I want to believe in him. He has an NFL arm he can throw with anticipation and by all accounts seems to be very football intelligent. I was thrilled when we drafted Mills because I learned a lot about him during the weeks leading up to the NFL draft. When Watson was having his great years we had Hopkins Fuller and cooks and a better offensive line. Everyone says Watson demanded a trade because he was treated unfairly or he knew the massage parlor story was gonna break. Is it possible that he looked in that receiver room and looked at that often is the line and realized he needed to get the f**k out
For everyone here who keeps saying Mills isn’t the answer and that our future lies in a quarterback in college please try to give me some examples of what you see above. I strongly believe that this team thanks to a incredible set of circumstances grabbed a first round QB in the third round. A quarterback on par with or if not better anyone playing in college right now. I dare someone to make an argument that Davis Mills wouldn’t be putting up better numbers at Ohio State than CJ Stroud.
P.S. I realize how long this is and most of you will not get past the first paragraph based on your lack of attention or wanting to hear a view opposite of yours But if you’re taking the time to go to the Texans sub Reddit you obviously care about this team. That means as fans supporting the right players and voicing discuss with the people in management who are making poor decisions is important. Those three idiots from the wheelhouse that are turning out content on a weekly basis have a not listeners to turn a fan base that our stupid owner might listen to.
