The big question. To Suburb or not to Suburb

Long story short some advice would be nice. Looking to get a home within 1-2 years. I work near downtown and would love to keep the drive 20-30 minutes or less if at all possible. I like the idea of living in the suburbs. Sugarland, woodlands, cypress, etc… but the drive is just too much. Any areas y’all recommend that are in the middle? Safe areas with low crime that give a feeling of suburbs living without the 1 hour commute? Price range is 300-400k for the home if that helps. Literally any suggestions would be helpful.
