The Astrodome should be turned into a large scale, dedicated concert hall like the Sphere in Las Vegas.
It’s something this city is missing. The closest dedicated concert space is Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion, which can be a pain to commute to depending on what side of town you’re located. I hate missing out on shows because they’re in the Woodlands. A centrally located, climate controlled, dedicated concert hall with access to rail/bus/PNR shuttles could benefit the city, county, Rodeo Houston, and the Texans. And with a flexible seating bowl (like Saitama Super Arena), the venue could host even more than just concerts.
• It could host the carnival indoors during the Rodeo or pregame activities for major events like the Super Bowl, World Cup, or Final Four. A venue like this could also enhance future bids to host major events that bring millions in revenue to our city.
• It could transform into column free convention space for events like Offshore Technology Conference.
• It could even enable NRG Park to host music festivals in climate controlled spaces year round, along with the other venues on the campus.
Point is, there is a need for a venue specifically designed for concerts and this could be it.
