Texans Week 18 Playoff Scenarios
Well y’all….
Somehow, someway, our Texans have made it to Week 18 with a potential ticket to the playoffs fully in their control.
The overall scenario is quite simple this week:
Win, and the Houston Texans secure a playoff spot. Lose, and the Texans are eliminated.
In prior weeks, I’ve had this as a rooting guide, but we’ve now approached the point where no other game will impact us getting to the playoffs. There are only 2 secondary games with a meaningful impact.
The first is the Jaguars/Titans game, as a Jaguars loss and Texans win would mean a division title for the team in Stroud and DeMeco’s first year. The second is the Bills/Dolphins game which could determine being the 6th or 7th seed.
That said, this week’s post will focus on the Texans potential playoff scenarios and wildcard opponents based on how things play out.
Playoff Seeding Possibilities
The Texans can end up as the 4th, 6th, or 7th seed in the AFC.
Additionally, the Texans only have a handful of opponents they can end up matched up against, each dependent on a specific seeding.
- Chiefs
- Bills
- Browns
The Chiefs and Browns have each locked their playoff seeds. The Chiefs are for sure the 3rd Seed, and the Browns are for sure the 5th seed. Additionally, the winner of Dolphins/Bills is guaranteed the 2nd Seed. This means that every potential seed for the Texans has a guaranteed opponent to go along with it.
So without further ado, here is how we would get to each potential seed, and which opponents would come with them.
4th Seed – Texans face the BROWNS at home
- Texans win AND
- Jaguars loss
—-
6th Seed – Texans face the CHIEFS in Kansas City
- Texans win AND
- Jaguars win AND
- Dolphins win
—-
7th Seed – Texans face the BILLS in Buffalo
- Texans win AND
- Jaguars win AND
- Bills win
