Texans most welcoming in the game.
Hey folks – I’m currently visiting family in Houston from (a very cold) Scotland and was lucky enough to be get tickets to the recent Texas/Titans game at NRG.
Knowing absolutely nothing about American Football and being a bit of an introvert this was all very daunting however from the moment I stepped in to the ground to the moment I left I had such an amazing time.
Watching football (soccer) in the UK is exciting the majority of the time but it can also be brutally unfriendly and violent – and this is just the fans (see ‘auld firm’ for reference to my local teams).
Anyway; you folks should be unbelievably proud of the culture you have built around football – the tailgaters are the best and welcomed a timid Scotsman in even with my bizarre accent – someone even busted out a pen and paper to explain some of the rules / plays to me while we shared a bud and some unknown bbq’d meat (I did ask what it was but he mumbled and said it didn’t matter).
I had a blast and will be watching the Texans from afar as my newly adopted team. Hopefully I’ll be back at some point next season and apparently I need to wear my kilt.
Good luck in the playoffs – the South is not enough.
Andy.
