Texans Historical Offensive Rankings
I was doing research for an argument this week and was pretty taken aback after pouring over some PFF stats. I know the Texans have never been an offensive juggernaut but these stats surprised me:
The best we've ever achieved as a franchise is the 8th ranked offense (2012)
Top 5 best Texans offensive seasons:
- 8th – 2012 – Kubiak / Schaub WATT prime era
- 9th – 2010 – Kubiak / Schaub no watt yet
- 10th (tie) – 2009 & 2011 – Kubiak / Schaub (HM to AJ, brian cushing and owen daniels)
- 11th – 2018 – BOB / Watson / hopkins / WATT
- 12th – 2007 – Kubiak 2nd year / Schaubs first year
Honorable mention: 13th – 2023 – CJ Stroud rookie year
So the best the Texans have ever been on offense was that 4 year stretch from 2009 – 2012 and our highest achievement was 8th. We've only been a top 10 offense 4x in our entire history and both were under Schaub / Kubiak.
We haven't had a top 10 offense in 13 years.
Main takeaways from this data is we don't give Schaub or Kubiak enough respect and its insane to me the Watson offenses only peaked at 11th. Also, imagine how good it must feel to have a top 5 offense?
