Texans have about $16.8 Million left available to spend for 2024
The Texans have $20,323,069 in cap space remaining.. Of that amount we need to save about $3,500,000 for our rookie picks according to Over the Cap.
That leaves us with $16.8 million left on the table, which can go up to $21.8 million if we cut Robert Woods. We’d get up to $23.3 million if we managed to trade Woods but I seriously doubt anyone would bite at that. Love ya Bobby Trees, but it’s just not worth the money.
The biggest needs to continue to address in free agency are in my opinion finding a cornerback to be #2 behind Stingley, finding a DT to line up next to Denico Autry, and our safeties.
If we swing big on DJ Reader, Arik Armstead, or Xavien Howard, then we won’t be left with much room to help with the other needs. But then again, we’d really be stacking a position group and it can make up for other holes.
What’s left at DT is basically the 2 big names and then nothing, so I’ll be interested to see if Caserio decides to make another big signing or just fill in the gap with a body and assume Anderson, Autry, and Hunter got it covered.
There’s still multiple solid corners available. Steven Nelson hasn’t been signed, nor CJ Henderson. Stephon Gilmore is a tier up from them and then Xavien Howard is obviously another jump up. Could get a stop gap like Levi Wallace and aim at CB in the draft.
Saftey is loaded with available players: Kamren Curl, Justin Simmons, Jamal Adams… tons of options and I wouldn’t hate giving Pitre and Ward a shot at redemptionn with Linebackers that aren’t as prone to sell out for the run.
I think if we can make the money work, my goal would be sign Armstead, sign CJ Henderson, and just ride with Pitre and Ward. In the draft we can target receiver, cornerback, and safeties.
