Texans free agency activity has been… interesting.
So the Texans basically haven’t signed anybody, right? And that’s somewhat understandable; distracted with the Watson saga, team in full rebuild mode, sophomore QB, not planning to be competitive next year.
Only problem with that is that description also mostly fits the Jags, who went on an absolute free agency bender. I know the Texans don’t have the same absurd salary cap surplus and they now have a lot of draft picks that they’re going to theoretically use – but the Texans almost definitely won’t use all those picks, at least 1-2 will get packaged into moving up a few spots here or there, and besides if you sign some quality depth and a rookie outplays them, releasing the free agent signing in August isn’t the end of the world.
If I were a true diehard Texan fan instead of a rubbernecker I would be worried that the front office isn’t even trying to sign anybody other than ‘invite to spring training’, replacement-level talent, and why that might be.
