Tenants rights in Houston
I never believed that we would end up here but my family is now homeless. Thanks to an eviction filing from a vindictive apartment manager who refused to accept our money one week late. There was a legitimate reason we were late, complete with police report. But the landlord just kept demanding more and more money everytime we tried to pay. It was a game we couldn't win. She laughed at my wife's pain. The current Texas laws dealing with eviction say you do not have the right to representation. And even if the eviction is dismissed… You will have an eviction on your record and will not be able to rent anywhere. We have the money to rent a place, just not the ability. People/Companies lie and say they can help, but they have just taken our money. So we live in a motel: myself, my wife, my 11 year old and my 82 year old father with two dogs. We go to work and to school, robotic, trying not to think of this pain. My rage is just below the surface. I'm so tired.
