Tell me all about Houston please…
I am a Black 33 year old male who lives in East Tennessee (I’m tired of the lack of diversity and backwardness), and I have interest in possibly moving to Houston.
Background
I currently make 110k+ as a blue collar worker in the aluminum industry. And I am in an apprenticeship program at my company training to become an industrial electrician, and lastly, I am doing online school for a nuclear power degree.
I have a bachelor’s degree in Climate and Climate Change science, which is unrelated to what I do now but I thought I would mention it.
My last visit
During my previous visit to Houston, I really enjoyed it and can see myself living there. I absolutely love the diversity, the food, the seemingly endless opportunities in the industrial/energy sectors, and the housing affordability. I also had a comfortability there that I don’t experience in my home state. I saw intermingling of all races, it was a beautiful experience. It seems like people just treated each other as equals. What I didn’t like was the endless sprawl, heat and humidity, crazy driving, and property tax and insurance cost but I think I could deal with it, and that the pros outweigh the cons.
Your thoughts
Am I at all off bases for how I’m viewing Houston? Could I find opportunity to make as much as I do in East Tennessee.? Does your money seem to go a long way here? And lastly, does dating here open up a bit more for middle class black men? Because the prospects are limited in East Tennessee for me.
