Teachers of the Houston Area

I (f29) am finally seriously considering getting out of HISD after this school year. I’m going on my 7th year as a Life Skills Special Education Teacher at the high school level and it just continues to get more and more disorganized as the years go on. I thought about leaving a couple years ago but wanted to stick it out for the crazy pay raise the district was giving to the “NES” schools. Now that that is going away, I’m ready to step away from this circus and enter a much more relaxed position despite the inevitable pay cut.

The question. What are the surrounding districts like? Based on proximity, I was eyeing Aldine ISD and Humble ISD. Does anyone have any insight on their Special Education programs/departments? I have had a class as large as 23 (students with moderate to severe disabilities) which I’ve heard is ridiculous but I truly don’t know any better as the conditions in HISD have always been way less than ideal. What are class sizes like? Families? What system do you use to write IEPs?

Any insight will help and apologies for the long post!
