TAYCAN: Heart: Electric – Soul & Performance: Definitely Porsche

The Taycan (pronounced tie-kahn) links the Porsche heritage to the future. It carries forward the success story of the brand – a brand that has fascinated and thrilled people the world over for more than 70 years.

The four-door sports saloon is a unique package, offering typical Porsche performance and connectivity with everyday usability. At the same time, highly advanced production methods and the features of the Taycan are setting new standards in the fields of sustainability and digitalization. Tycan is a true Porsche for the age of electromobility, a fascinating sports car that not only excites in terms of its technology and driving dynamics, but also sparks a passion in people all over the world, just like its legendary predecessors have done.

The Taycan carries a legacy that is reflected by performance. The latest drive technology ensures that its performance can be repeatedly reproduced: two permanent-magnet synchronous motors (PSMs) catapult the Taycan Turbo S with up to 560kW (750 HP) Overboost Power with Launch Control from 0–60 mph in 2.6 seconds. With a standing start of 1.2g, it delivers incredible acceleration, precise handling, and aggressive styling. The Porsche Advanced Cockpit in the Taycan is characterized by pioneering technologies and offers up to four displays. The fully digital curved display is the driver’s main focus. But what really distinguishes the Taycan is the feeling behind the wheel: the familiarity of a Porsche coupled with the irresistible beating of your heart.

The Taycan 4S, Turbo and Turbo S drive all four wheels with two electric motors. The shifts of the rear motor’s unique two-speed transmission are imperceptible during regular driving. But activate launch control, and the Porsche knocks out a one-two shift that is as quick and as hard as any gas-powered sports car. Given the Taycan’s low and sleek roofline, the interior is surprisingly spacious, allowing a six-footer to fit comfortably in both the front and rear seats. The cargo space is divided between the trunk and a small front compartment that accommodates a carry-on-size bag. The Taycan includes standard SiriusXM satellite radio, Bluetooth connectivity, and Apple CarPlay compatibility. The Taycan is also the first car to offer native Apple Music support, which allows Apple Music subscribers to stream music directly from the car’s infotainment system without pairing a phone. The standard three-screen cockpit includes a curved-glass instrument panel, a main infotainment touchscreen, and a secondary touchscreen that controls climate functions and doubles as a laptop-like touchpad as a redundant means of manipulating the upper primary screen. You may also opt for the optional passenger display, adding a fourth pane of glass in the dash on the right side of the car.

RANGE

The estimated EPA range for the Taycan Turbo is 201 miles. The estimated EPA range for the Taycan Turbo S is 192 miles.

Porsche asked AMCI Testing to conduct independent tests to evaluate the Taycan Turbo and Turbo S range to help customers make more informed decisions. Tested on AMCI Testing’s “City/Highway Commute Cycle” route on public roads in and around Southern California, the results were calculated by averaging the vehicle’s performance over five test cycles. As with all battery-electric vehicles, the actual range of the new Taycan Turbo may vary due to driving conditions, personal driving and charging habits, and battery age.
