Taking a job in Houston, what do I need to know?

Hello everyone, I have taken a job in Houston and I know Jack s**t about the city other than stuff involving the Rockets. My job is located downtown but it’s telework 3-4 days a week, so I don’t have to particularly live in the city although I’m not opposed to it. I’m in my Mid-twenties, the job pays around 70k, I’m a dude from Raleigh NC.

Things I’d like to know: What should I expect rent wise?

How’s gas prices looking down there?

What parts of the city should I gravitate towards/stay away from?

Any other advice you guys/girls have relating to living there from an economic/cultural standpoint I’d appreciate so feel free to mention stuff I didn’t ask for.
