Taking a dive into the Astros potential vision for the future
I think we’re going to be a top 5 team in the majors again with all of our pitching coming back minus Urquidy and Verlander (unless Verlander has a vesting option but I think I remember seeing Justin is an unrestricted free agent) (sportrac has him as an UFA for what it’s worth)
Looking towards the future we have the following cash coming off the books:
-
Pressly has a vesting option for 14M so he’s staying unless we trade him which I think would be dumb. I think he finds his form again in 2025.
-
Verlander 17.5M (Mets paid 60% of his contract)
-
Bregman 20M
-
Kikuchi 12M
-
Graveman 8M
-
Heyward 5M
-
Urquidy 3.75M
-
Ferguson 2.4M
-
Gamel 1.2M
-
Neris 740k (Cubs paid his salary this season)
For a grand total of $70,605,000.
Abreu and Pressly will come off the books next season when Tuckers contract would hit freeing up another 33.5 million giving us over $100+ million to play with considering the luxury tax floor is always moving up.
Maybe Tucker or Bregman (who’s raking in cash from big salsa) would take deferred money giving us even more to spend on another few solid bats (we do not need starting pitching unless there’s someone too good to pass up) and bullpen relief.
Do you guys think the front office is planning to try and extend him, while their plan B is selling him at the deadline if we’re having an unsuccessful season? Thats pretty much what I think the plan is.
We have to try to keep this golden age going. Jim Crane please don’t let the run die dawg!
