Taking 5 year old to game. – advice

My son is 5 and wants to go to a game. I'm British and although I enjoy watching baseball on TV sometimes, I've never been to game (although had no problem watching cricket all day in England). Any advice on where to sit at Daikin park? I don't want to pay $200 to sit up close for him to get bored by the 3rd innings and want to go home. However, I don't want to sit in the nose bleeds and then he'll not really get a feel for vibe. Is there a day or night that is particularly family friendly? I was thinking Friday evening just because it's not a big deal if he stays up a bit late. Do people with young kids arrive just in time for the first pitch, or is there some things to keep them entertained before hand?
