The Texas Senate approved a resolution that would allow legislators to act and vote on bills beginning on the 31st day of each legislative session. Currently, they cannot take up bills until the 61st day.

Lawmakers will consider bills aimed at strengthening the state’s power grid and creating new natural gas generators.

One bill restricts which types of drag shows children can attend by criminalizing “sexually oriented performances” in front of minors. The other bill prohibits libraries that host drag queen story hour events from receiving public funds.

Senate Bill 14 would ban treatments such as gender reassignment surgeries and hormone therapies for minors. Senators previously voted to allow children to continue some ongoing treatment, but the amendment was withdrawn.

The Lone Star State joins California in the only states with more than 30 million residents.

The bill requires college athletes to compete on sports teams based on their sex assigned at birth, regardless of their gender identity. It now heads to the Texas House, where Republican lawmakers have expressed their support for similar legislatio…
