T-Mobile vs Verizon

I'm in Katy. I've had Verizon all my life and the coverage has been good wherever I lived. They are starting to get really expensive though and the CDMA network means that almost every phone I end up wanting to upgrade to doesn't work with Verizon. I'm thinking of switching to another carrier. Is T-Mobile any good? Has anyone switched to T-Mobile in Houston from Verizon? Recommended or not?
