Studio vs 1 Bedroom

Dear Houston, In your experience (in this city), Is it better to rent a studio apartment in a nicer area/building than to risk a spacious-maybe 1 bedroom apartment in an okay building? It’s hard to find 1 bedrooms in our budget where the buildings don’t have at least a few reviews that mention break ins, catalytic converter theft, mold, or parking spot skirmishes.
