Stressed about housing

I’m moving to Houston to get my masters in clinical mental health counseling and I’m struggling to figure out the best location to live. My partner is going to UH and I’m going to UHCL-Pearland. From what I’ve seen 1bx1b are decently priced (under 1k) near UHCL-pearland but I want to be close-ish to my partner too. I’m open to a roommate, but don’t know where to find one who is a graduate student also attending UHCL Pearland. I’ve checked Facebook for groups to meet people and there isn’t any for non minority groups (I love they have a community. I’m just wondering how to find a roommate without invading their space). Any advice is welcomed! Please let me know what apartments are safe/ areas that are close to both campuses. I’m okay to commute a little farther to UHCL-Pearland as I only have in person classes twice a week. Thanks in advance!!
